High-quality fibre duvets and fibre pillows have outstanding material properties and are becoming increasingly popular. They are not only appreciated by allergy sufferers because they are easy to care for. But what is the best way to clean fibre-filled duvets and pillows so that they retain their benefits in the long term?
Our washing tips for fibre pillows and fibre duvets
1.) Preparation for washing
In most cases, fibre duvets and pillows can be cleaned in the washing machine at home. Always read the care instructions on the washing label carefully before washing the bedding correctly. Check the bedding for any damage so that you can be sure that no filling has leaked out during the wash cycle, for example.
2.) Which washing machines are suitable for fibre?
Washing machines and dryers must always have sufficient capacity. For pillows, you need a washing machine with a capacity of at least 4.5 kilograms, for duvets 6 kilograms or more. Under no circumstances should duvets or pillows be pressed into the drum with great pressure or washed together with other items of laundry. Ideally, the drum should only be half full. This is the only way to preserve the shape and material properties while ensuring thorough cleaning.
3.) Which detergent should I use for bedding with fibre filling?
A liquid mild detergent is ideal for washing fibre duvet and cushions. Please refrain from using fabric softener and do not use heavy-duty detergent so as not to alter the sophisticated fibre structure.
4.) Washing instructions for fibre pillows and fibre duvets
Almost all fibre-filled duvets and pillows can be washed at up to 60 °C without any problems. There are also individual, particularly hygienic models that can even be washed at up to 95 °C. Always follow the instructions on the care label. Then select an easy-care or delicate wash programme on the washing machine. The duvets and pillows can then be put through a spin cycle at 800 rpm without any problems.
5.) Dry fibre duvets and pillows correctly
Once the wash and spin cycle is complete, remove the laundry from the washing machine. We strongly recommend drying the fibre bedding in the tumble dryer as this gives the best results. Duvets and pillows become wonderfully fluffy, retain their shape and dry evenly. We do not recommend drying in front of or on a radiator or in the sun. Select an automatic or gentle programme on the tumble dryer and remove the pillow or duvets from the drum after 30 minutes. Now shake them up. Repeat this process until you can no longer feel any moisture and the pillow or duvet is completely dry. Wait until the pillows or duvets have evaporated before covering them.
6.) How often should I wash fibre duvets and pillows?
Washing once a year is completely sufficient. Allergy sufferers can also start a wash cycle every six months.
