More sleeping comfort with the right topper or mattress topper
The matching counterpart to a high-quality mattress is a topper and also called mattress topper. It protects the mattress from contamination and enhances its positive properties.
Why should you use a topper at all?
There are many advantages to using a topper or mattress topper. The topper shields the mattress from dust, sweat and liquids, it makes it difficult for dust mites to settle.
A topper noticeably improves sleeping comfort. The body weight is distributed more evenly and it adapts to the contours. Under heavier areas it gives way, cushions and supports the body.
In our online shop you will find a wide selection of different toppers that you can easily buy online.
Topper properties: What's important?
A mattress topper provides a comfortable and soft sleeping experience while protecting the mattress from wear and tear and contamination. Toppers can also be easily used on folding beds or sofa beds, where they provide noticeably more comfort. Rubber bands at the four corners of the mattress protector prevent slipping and thus guarantee undisturbed sleeping pleasure.
In addition to organic and allergy toppers, our extensive range also includes warming toppers for the cold season and anti-sweating toppers for hot weather and high temperatures in bedrooms. Due to the specially used materials, they provide an optimal sleeping climate during the night.
The toppers in our range are suitable for any sleeping position, whether you are a side sleeper, stomach sleeper or back sleeper.
Which material is suitable for topper covers?
A mattress topper basically consists of a cover and a filling.
The covers of our toppers are either made of 100% cotton, 100% cotton satin or a mixture of cotton and fibres.
Mattress toppers: Which filling material is right for me?
Our mattress toppers are available with different fillings:
Down topper
Particularly warming, it provides cuddly soft lying comfort
A topper with a filling of goose down and feathers is extra soft and cuddly and thus ensures particularly pleasant lying comfort. The ratio between down and feathers is chosen in such a way that an optimal support function and pressure relief is guaranteed by the mattress topper. Mattress protectors with down filling are characterized by their excellent moisture-regulating properties. Thanks to its ability to store heat, a topper filled with goose down and feathers is the ideal mattress topper for the winter. Of course, the down and feathers for our topper fillings come from controlled organic animal husbandry and meet the strict guidelines of the GOTS.
Virgin sheep's wool topper
The topper against sweating is self-cleaning, temperature and moisture regulating.
A mattress topper with a filling of virgin sheep's wool has several advantages: Firstly, it is particularly moisture-regulating, as sheep's wool can absorb about 30% of its own weight in moisture. On the other hand, virgin sheep's wool has a temperature balancing effect and dissipates excess heat. This makes a mattress topper with a virgin sheep's wool filling ideal for anyone who tends to sweat at night. The stain-resistant property of sheep's wool is another plus point of this filling material.
Cotton topper
Pleasantly soft, skin-friendly and easy to care for.
The natural cotton topper is characterised by a high degree of easy care, durability and robustness and also offers a pleasant and soft lying comfort. Thanks to their excellent moisture and temperature regulating properties, mattress toppers made of cotton are ideal especially in summer. Our toppers with cotton filling are suitable for allergy sufferers and can be washed at up to 95 °C.
Fibre topper
High lying comfort, hygienic and especially suitable for allergy sufferers
A fibre filling consists of hollow fibres or climate fibres, which belong to the textile fibres. They are characterised by excellent heat insulation and are also light and soft. A topper with a fibre filling is also moisture-regulating and breathable. Hollow fibres can be washed at up to 60 °C without any problems, and even up to 95 °C depending on the product. Thanks to these properties, mattress protectors with a fibre filling are excellent for allergy sufferers.
Toppers: Which quality is best?
Highest quality for billerbeck organic toppers with GOTS certificate
In our organic range we have natural toppers whose raw materials have been selected according to strict standards. The "Global Organic Textile Standard" (GOTS) is the most important globally valid, certified standard for the processing of textiles made from organically produced textile fibres. The entire production and supply chain, from the extraction of raw materials to manufacturing and packaging, is carried out according to strict specifications to guarantee compliance with the GOTS standard. The criteria of the GOTS are not only based on the organic production of the raw materials and their processing, but also on sustainability and social aspects.
The organic goose down and feathers for our down-filled toppers come exclusively from geese reared in Germany. These are kept in a species-appropriate manner in accordance with the controlled organic animal husbandry guidelines of the GOTS. We guarantee that no animals have been processed for our goose down and feathers that have been kept for stuffing or foie gras production or have been subjected to live plucking.
The billerbeck SCHLAF & GESUNDHEIT foundation seal of quality guarantees the traceability of the raw material down to the egg through certification.
How can a topper be washed?
All toppers in our range are washable. The washing temperature is either a maximum of 30 °C, 60 °C or 95 °C and depends on the material and filling of the mattress topper. Please refer to the respective care label on the product. Toppers should only be washed with liquid mild detergent and not with full detergent. Please do not use fabric softener. Check the topper for any damage before washing and note the capacity of your washing machine.
Mattress toppers should always be washed on the easy-care or delicates programme at a maximum of 800 rpm, using the water-plus function if possible. After washing, you should dry the topper in the tumble dryer and never on the heating or in the sun. A gentle tumble dryer programme that does not get too hot is best. During the drying process, the topper should be taken out of the tumble dryer every 30 minutes and lightly shaken to avoid heat build-up. You may need to tumble dry the mattress protector several times until it is completely dry. The topper should be completely steamed out before it is covered again. If necessary, it should be pulled into shape beforehand.
