Eiderdown
Eiderdown Filling for Duvets and Pillows.
The eiderdown from the eider duck is extremely rare and therefore particularly valuable. Just a handful of these down feathers can develop a cozy warmth within seconds. Moreover, 1,000 down feathers weigh merely one gram. Their consistent warmth retention and insulation capabilities are unique.
The eider duck is a protected species and lives in polar regions. With its down feathers, it pads the nests for its offspring. Many small branches keep the down feathers clumped together like burrs - so they remain attached to the nest even during arctic storms. After the hatching of the young birds, these rare down feathers are carefully plucked from the abandoned nests. In eight hours of manual labor, about one kilogram of eiderdown is harvested from approximately 60 nests.
